Friendship Center The Friendship Center is located within the Homer Senior Center Campus. Twelve to seventeen participants attend the center from a few hours each day to a full day. A social model, the center is open five days a week from Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. We do extend hours, in the morning or evening for special situations upon request. The center’s qualified staff provide a variety of activities. This program allows individuals to remain in the community by providing day care so that other members of the family can work and carry out daily activities. Nutrition Each morning a light continental style breakfast is offered, and there is a hot lunch at noon. Dietary needs are taken into consideration whenever food is served. In the afternoon a snack is given. |
Special Events Depending on the time of year, special events such as a boat trip to Gull Island, picnics, and other outings are scheduled for participants. In addition, many local groups and individuals volunteer their time and come to entertain or work with the participants. Opportunities for interaction with the younger generation are provided for the participants at least once a month.
Recreational Activities
A variety of activities are planned for each participant based on each person’s individual needs. Arts and crafts, story- telling and reading, singing, exercise, cooking, gardening, movies, and games are examples of the activities.
Friendship Center is partially funded from a grants received from the Alaska
Department of Health
and Social Services and United Way.
